Welcome to this website dedicated to sharing opinions and information about attaining and maintaining optimum health through the practice of Yoga.
My name is Avril and I have been teaching Yoga for about thirty years. For the last fifteen or more years, most of my classes have been in institutional settings for people with mental health problems. This has included a residential unit for people with chronic mental disorder, a psychiatric unit of a general hospital, and a medium- secure forensic unit.
Whilst I have some expertise in Yoga in its remedial aspects, I am not medically trained. This means that all my articles are based on my own opinions, and the experience gained from years of teaching. My training has been with the British Wheel of Yoga and the Yoga For Health Foundation when it worked mainly with students with MS at Ickwell Bury in Bedfordshire, UK
Much of this site will begin by focusing on illnesses such as depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, and bi-polar disorder. However, students with these disorders frequently have many of the ailments found in the rest of the population, so there will be articles on general health and Yoga.
There will be a section for people to add comments and experiences, just click on the "Comments" link above. By sharing insights and helpful hints, the Yoga community grows and everyone benefits.
